Statement: You are the 99%. We are the 99% of Americans who are just trying to get ahead. I am Mike Lapointe, a working class American willing to go to the mat for the middle class.

Corporations are not people! Money is not speech! Government policy should benefit the majority of our citizens, not just the few. Policies that enhance corporate profits but harm average citizens are simply wrong. Banks should not gamble with their customers’ money. Income from work should not be taxed at a higher rate than investment gains.

Our tax system should pay the country’s bills while promoting a healthy middle-class, not just obscene wealth. People have had enough. That's why Bernie won this district's caucus and primary. That's why even more local Democratic Party organizations are endorsing me this year than two years ago.

I don't support bad trade deals. Fossil fuels shipped through our state must be phased out with urgent attention placed on development of green energy solutions. We need a moratorium on foreclosures, and forgiveness of the student loan debt that could economically enslave an entire generation. We need world class affordable education for all.

I have been a factory worker, Vice President of the United Electrical Workers Local 264 and an outspoken opponent of corporations dominating our political system. I defended workers in contract negotiations and the halls of government. I am not beholden to corporate powers. Their money will oppose my election. I am proud of that.

The defense department should be used for defense, not global empire. Work should pay a living wage. Our civil rights should never be compromised in the name of “security”. I will focus on communities, families, local businesses, and sustainable future. This is who I am and what I will take to Congress. Thank You
