Statement: We need proven, progressive leadership in Congress to move our country and region forward, lifting up all Americans.

Our country faces significant and pressing challenges. Student loan debt and tuition spiral out of control making higher education impossible for millions, gun violence is an urgent public health crisis, our climate is changing at a dangerous and historic pace, and the Citizens United ruling introduced unprecedented dark, secret money into our political system corrupting our politics.

I’ve spent the last 15 years delivering real, progressive results for families here in Washington state. From my ten years in the state legislature, in both the House and Senate, and now over five years on the King County Council, I know our community needs leaders who deliver results. Like no other candidate in this race, I’ve delivered...

I’ve delivered for our climate and environment, passing legislation creating state vehicle emission standards to lower carbon emissions and protected Maury Island from industrial gravel mining. I’ve taken on big money in politics, passing statewide campaign finance reform here in Washington and am committed to overturning Citizens United to get dark, unaccountable money out of our politics.

I secured and expanded mass transit, leading efforts to preserve King County Metro service during the great recession and expanding light rail across our region with Sound Transit. My work passing domestic partnerships leading to full marriage equality mattered to thousands here, and meant my husband Michael and I could finally marry after 14 years together.

Results matter and I have delivered like no other candidate in this race. King County Executive Dow Constantine, the Washington Federation of State Employees, the 34th District Democrats and dozens of community leaders have endorsed our campaign. I’ll take my track record of proven, progressive results to Congress and continue this important work.
