Statement: I am proud of my ability to get things done in Olympia. I have passed progressive legislation to support homeless students, expand health care, safeguard reproductive rights, and guarantee equal treatment for all. My mission has been to expand higher education for all Washingtonians, including Dreamers. I have worked with all parties to change deadly force laws and improve de-escalation training. I led on school safety and gun violence prevention and joined in the March for Our Lives. I have fought for stronger DUI laws and property tax relief for local homeowners.

As the Senate’s chief capital budget writer, I broke a stalemate by reaching across the aisle to secure record investments in public school construction (including tens of millions of dollars for Seattle schools), building affordable housing, providing mental health care, investing in environmental stewardship, and funding infrastructure priorities in Lake Forest Park and Kenmore.

Going forward, I will work to increase affordable housing, enhance special education funding, support college affordability, and reduce economic inequality.
