Statement: I stand for a Port that generates prosperity and represents the interests of our entire community. This includes commercial fishers, boaters, light industry, shipping terminal customers, and marine businesses and trades. Full public access to our waterfront and where appropriate, mixed-use sustainable development are equally important.

Our Port and Bellingham’s waterfront are remarkable County assets. They must be used to develop and drive more family-wage jobs, business innovation, additional recreational activities, and outdoor entertainment venues for adults and children alike. Tourism plays a major role in our County and will thrive even more when guided by sound, practical and forward-thinking leadership.

I believe there are opportunities to diversify and make better use of the Port’s properties whether it’s the Bellingham Airport site, the Blaine Marina or the Sumas Industrial Park, to meet the needs of our growing population. This will require improved communication and coordination with our County government, smaller cities and transportation agencies.

We all have a stake in the future of the Port and I pledge to foster economic growth, make sound land use decisions, and protect our natural resources. If elected to serve, this is the vision I will pursue as Port Commissioner.
