Elected Experience: State Representative (2007-2011); Bainbridge Island City Council
Other Professional Experience: Prior to holding elected office, I worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development as an advisor and business development officer. I moved with my husband to Bainbridge in 1992 to work on water resource and open space issues for Kitsap County.
Education: BA Economics, University of Virginia; MPA, University of Washington
Community Service: I volunteer at my daughters' public schools, attend Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, serve on the Boards of Kitsap Community Resources, the Silverdale YMCA, the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition and the Kitsap Advisory Council of CASH (entrepreneurial training).
Statement: I am honored to serve as your State Senator. I have sought to bring a balanced and thoughful approach to the opportunities before our state, to increase efficiency and accountability at all levels of government, and to prioritize Kitsap families in these challenging times.
Jobs: Getting people back to work has been job number one. As part of the solution, I passed legislation that helps veterans and military spouses enter the civilian workforce, assists unemployed entrepreneurs start their first businesses, revitalizes our main streets and retains and expands manufacturing jobs in our state.
Schools: I've been a leading advocate in the legislature for education funding and will continue to push for high standards, vocational instruction, and affordable tuition at our state colleges. I've championed workforce training and greater access to four year degrees at Olympic College to ensure the skilled workers of tomorrow.
Strong Communities: Our legislators must fight hard in Olympia to maintain our ferry service. We must stand up for veterans and seniors. We are responsible for protecting and restoring Puget Sound and Hood Canal for today and into the future. I have a track record of working hard for you, and I ask for your vote.
