Other Professional Experience: Senator Jim Hargrove has worked as a Forester on the Olympic Peninsula for over 34 years. He is self-employed.

Education: Jim has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forest Management from Oregon State University.

Community Service: Jim coached youth baseball for many years and is currently a member of the Grays Harbor Economic Development Council and is actively involved in his church and the local Christian community.

Statement: Jim Hargrove has served the Olympic Peninsula in the legislature for 28 years. He has a proven record of seeking solutions in a bipartisan way. As Chair of the Human Services and Corrections Committee, he has focused on helping children and families and preventing crime. His work to help juveniles and reform corrections has benefited citizens by actually lowering the crime rate in Washington which is saving the taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars each year.

He has had 37 of his prime-sponsored bills enacted in the last 4 years alone. His effective work has also resulted in the passage of major economic development legislation. Also, being a professional forester and Chair of the Western States Legislative Forestry Task Force has helped him be a leading voice for timber communities.

In the last few years he has received awards from the Washington Conservation Voters, the State Homeless Coalition, WSCADV, WA State Medical Association, and the WA Arms Collectors. This year alone he has received awards for his legislative work from the Washington Forest Protection Association, The Child Welfare Advocacy Coalition and the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs.
